Kalamazoo Author's Metal/HipHop-Inspired Book #1 Bestseller for Ghost Road Press
Anonymous writes " Ghost Road Press published R.A. Riekki's novel U.P. in November, 2008. For the last eight weeks (and counting), it has been their #1 bestseller in fiction. Riekki is a '07 Literature & Creative Writing Ph.D. graduate of Western Michigan University and his novel heavily focuses on the Michigan music scene, focusing on three high school teen music addicts as they try to survive the brutality of bullies, absent fathers, a collapsing economy, and a horrifying winter. Because the novel is so heavily music focused, he has been interviewed by about thirty radio stations, especially shows with hip-hop and metal DJs, as those two forms of music are throughout the book (along with punk). WFNP out of New York dubbed Riekki the "First Metal Novelist" and he was recently on the front page of Oslo, Norway's Metal Express Radio with Chris Fehn of Slipknot (www.metalexpressradio.com) and his interview is located in their in print section between Scott Gorham of Thin Lizzy and Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme. A producer who had read U.P. recommended Riekki to 51 Minds and he ended up working on two shows on VH1. Fans of metal, hip-hop, punk, and the Michigan music scene can go to www.ghostroadpress.com for more information on Riekki's novel."

Our recent works have included a recycled blanket drive for the homeless shelters, an organic clothing fashion show with the Bethany Christian Services refugee center, and a can drive with all proceeds going to Well House here in Grand Rapids. We are in the midst of an organic food drive, which will be donated to the various food pantries around the city.
Our benefit is set for May 3rd with our first band starting at 7pm. The line up is as follows: Bowery, The Total Blam Blams, Igby Iris, Righteous and PotatoeBabies. The show is going to be at the Remedy 245 N. Division. $5 donation at the door. We will have raffles through out the evening. So come on down for good tunes and good times!"
